BRAZILIAN JIU JITSU

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu & Self Defense

Sundays 11am – 1pm

While learning traditional Jiu Jitsu taught by a Japanese immigrant, Hélio Gracie was forced to adapt some of the techniques in order for them to work against his larger siblings. This became known as Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. BJJ is a form of grappling and was designed so that anyone can use technique and leverage to subdue a larger opponent. In BJJ we will focus on taking an opponent to the ground and subduing them.

Jarom has over 35 years of martial arts experience. Having practiced and competed in various martial arts, he eventually found a passion for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. After earning his blue belt from Jorge Jimenez, he trained under multiple black belts at Mixed Martial Arts gyms around Atlanta. He competed on Roberto Traven Team Octopus and received his purple belt from Pete Snider in 2015.

1994 Tea Kwon Do Jr. Olympic Gold Medalist

IBJJF Atlanta Open Bronze Medalist 2014, 2015

No experience necessary. Wear comfortable clothing. The class will consist of a 15-minute warm up and stretch. Standing self-defense techniques (15-20 minutes). Ground techniques (15-20 minutes). Live training (1 hr).

Live training may be limited due to Covid-19.

For more information contact Jarom at 770-598-9717 or email jarommatson@gmail.com

THE ACTORS HANG OUT

With so many great actors capturing so many great moments, it goes to show that one method does not fit all. Isn't it time an acting class helped you find your process? Whether you're new to acting or have SAG credits to your name, The Actor's Hang Out (TAHO) is a place to learn, stretch, and grow safely with fellow actors not only with the craft and business of acting, but also our instrument. This is an on-going class based in the scene study format. We may also do parallels, cold reads, and exercises so you'll be able to work every class.

TAHO’s primary focus is to prepare you for real work in real projects happening right now in tv and film. We have libraries of scenes to choose from on various free sites so you'll never have a shortage of material. Scenes should always be memorized prior to being performed. Rehearsals aren't required, but allowed. Youmay work a scene for as long as you'd like and have multiple scenes with different scene partners as long as you're able to carry the workload.

TAHO is for adults and sensitive subject matter may be performed or shared. You must be 18 years of age or older in order to attend and strive to embrace a vulnerable and tolerant atmosphere.

Everyone here takes very seriously our responsibility to limit the spread of COVID-19. We have limited space available as we are abiding by social distancing guidelines. Please RSVP to ensure a spot. Additionally, Mixdeity complies with all health guidelines. Participants are asked to participate in our contract tracing program. Their temperatures are checked when they enter.

This is a donation based class with suggested donation of $5/class for members and $10/class for non-members.

Students are required to social distance and wear a mask everywhere in the building. Temperature screening upon entry. You may remove your mask when performing only if social distancing guidelines are being adhered to.

Interested in TAHO? Email the instructor at: taylorgirard@gmail.com

CAPOEIRA CLASS

This is not your typical martial arts class. Taught by two instructors with over 25 years of combined experience, this class will teach you this beautiful Afro-Brazilian martial art, which includes strikes, kicks and take-downs integrated with dance, animalistic movements, and acrobatics, at a great workout pace with the goal of improving your coordination, flexibility and strength. You'll also get a fully authentic experience as you learn to play the traditional Berimbau, various percussion instruments, and to sing Capoeira music in Portuguese while learning the rich culture surrounding this discipline.

We are also taking precautions due to Covid-19. Classes are being held outdoors at Grant Park to allow for maximum airflow, and lesson plans are designed to allow for more than the CDC recommended 6-foot separation. Contact us to check space availability and location details.

This is a donation based class with suggested donation of $10/class.

Donations NOT required to come to class! Your presence is more valuable than your donations. Donate according to your situation.
